５７〕長崎市への原爆投下を待ち構えていたかの様に、ソビエトが日本へ宣戦布告して来た。

この背景には列強国間の政治的な駆け引きが影響している。

４５年２月に米英ソの首脳がドイツの戦後処理と日本の本土攻撃に対する会談を、クリミア半島のヤルタで開催し、この時にソビエトの日本攻略が秘密合意に達していた。

５８〕続いて４５年５月に開かれたポツダム予備会談で、ソ連のスターリンは八月中に、日本軍へ攻撃作戦を発動することを公言した。

満州国を中国の主権とする代わりに、朝鮮半島を米ソ英中が信託統治することを提案したのです。

日本の処理はソ連軍による日本占領を主張し、米国に戦略物資の支援を要求したのである。

５９〕米国参謀本部は、ソ連が戦争の決着がついた所に便乗するとの見方を強めていた。

ルーズベルト大統領は完成寸前の原爆製造について、スターリンには一言も言及しなかったのです。

ソ連の火事場泥棒ともいえる行為に半ば呆れたそぶりを見せながら、45年7月16日米国は世界で初めて原爆実験を実施して成功させた。

６０〕この様な密約があった事を日本が知る由もない。

ソビエトはドイツが降伏した日から９０日以内に日本へ宣戦布告すると英米に約束した。

その９０日目である４５年８月９日、世界平和の早期回復を口実に武力攻撃を行うと布告した。

既に日本は宣戦布告に正式回答する余裕もなかった。これで日本とソ連の中立条約は完全に破棄されてしまう。

６１〕東南アジア・マリアナ諸島・太平洋諸島で降伏し、広島や長崎に原爆を落とされた日本軍に取って、ソ連との戦場である満州国・樺太南部・朝鮮半島・千島列島は過酷なものだったであろう。

何処の戦場も現有勢力でしか戦えない日本軍は、原爆投下に続きソ連軍によって最後のとどめを刺された結果になった。
