五分くらいすると彼女は諦めたらしく、暫くお待ち下さいと云いながら、誰かと会話している声が微かに零れた。

ഏ 暫くしてから再び若い女性の声で担当のフルノですと呼びかけられたので、礼儀だと思いながら簡単に説明をしました。

彼女の反応は担当者とは名ばかりの、単なる事務員にしか思えなかったので、意地悪な質問もいくつか試みた。途端に交換手と同様に敵意まで感ずるほどの、病的な警戒感をあらわに示したのです。

彼女の論法は明らかに私を挑発している、怒らせようとしているとはっきり感じました。疑いありませんでした。
